We are seeking a fully qualified and experienced engineer or safety professional that can drive Process Safety Management results. The PSM Engineer will work on-site at the Franklin, LA plant.

In this role, you are the responsible person for the plant’s development, implementation and ongoing/day-to-day management of Cabot’s process safety management systems assuring compliance with Cabot’s process safety requirements, as well as OSHA (1910.119) and EPA RMP regulations (as required).
This role requires a safety mind-set, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and recordkeeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:
Develop, Manage, and Coordinate the Ongoing Maintenance of all PSM Elements Including Employee Participation Plans, Written Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analyses, Written Operating Procedures, Training and Documentation, Contractor Requirements, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, Management of Change, Incident Investigations, Compliance Audit, and Trade Secrets.
• Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment: Lead Process Hazard Analyses for the Site, Mentors Others in Conducting Risk Assessments, Understands the Way Process Safety Hazards are Controlled, What Those Controls are and How Effective They Are, Identifies Control Improvements or New Controls for Risk Reduction.
• Management of Change: Able to Initiate Change Management Process, Prepares Management of Change (MOC) Documents, Understands the Change and Can Update Information Systems e.g. Drawings, Manual, Procedures, etc, Recognizes Theory of Implementing Change and How Changes Will Affect Risk, Communicates Changes as Required, Actively Implements Change Management Procedures, Authorizes Change in Their Area/Competency or is a Reviewer on the Change.
• Systems Manuals, & Drawings: Defines Document Management System and its Use in Training, Contributes to the Development and Review of P&ID, Process Flows, Manuals and other Operational Documentation, Uses MOC for Communicating Document Changes, Able to use Process Safety Information to Explain Actual Process Performance Issues, Understand how the Document Control System Works and How to Make Suggestions for Improvement, Understands How to Use Process Safety Information in Emergency Situations.
• Safety: Ensure the safety compliance of the plant utilities and operating units within the plant. Exhibit safe behaviors within the plant and promote the behavioral safety systems with others. Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management by updating operating procedures, assisting in training of unit operators and leading the Management of Change process.
• Education: Post-secondary Engineering degree (Bachelor’s/University) and generally 5 years’ production experience in a specialty chemical industry or petrochemical industry.
• Technical Excellence: Basic knowledge of chemistry. Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and principals. Experience with Analytical problem-solving methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, failure mode analysis) as well as Risk Based Process Safety principles. Ensures compliance with all standards, regulations, and industry best practices (OSHA, RC14001, ISO 9001, PSM).
• Communication & Presentation Skills: Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise, clear, and relevant while delivering with empathy with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Computers Skills: Excellent skills with Microsoft Office, Aspen IP.21, AutoCAD, and data analysis. Experience in process control with Honeywell Experion, HPM, or Delta V.
• Guide Results: Generates data, conducts analysis, and organizes and interprets data to establish and support equipment.
• Works Safely: Strictly follows and complies with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strives for Excellence in the fields of sustainability and Safety, Health, and preservation of the Environment. Familiar with topics such as Process Safety Management (PSM), safe work permitting, lockout/tagout, emergency response, and hazard recognition.
