Your Role at Cabot

Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Toller/Plant Engineer who will provide technical support and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing capability, capacity, and productivity at the site and tolling/dispersion processes to ensure safe and optimal process utilization. Implements capital and expense projects within scope, cost, time, and safety standards. Work may focus on particular products/line/units, plant process/equipment Reliability and/or Process Safety Management. The Toller/Plant Engineer will work on-site at the Tuscola, IL plant, with interface, and travel to Toller locations as the business needs estimating 5-20% travel.

 

In this role, your primary duty is to identify, recommend and implement improvements in Toller related performance to optimize product volume, yields and quality. You will manage and monitor the tolled product process to maintain supply, quality (verify batches meet Key Performance Variables/ KPVs), and cost efficiency. This role requires

How You Will Make an Impact

A successful candidate will be someone who can: 

  • Provide technical advice and support to investigate and resolve unusual problems. Uses statistical techniques to improve process capability; uses failure analysis methodology and upgrades and/or implement process improvements.
  • Participate and present Toller related information during global planning meetings.
  • Monitors and manages toll products and providers for efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality of product delivered.
  • May participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) for key production/capital projects. Ensures all product and process changes are implemented in line with appropriate Management of Change (MOC) principles. May provide change training as required to manufacturing personnel in relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Identify/Develop process improvements to lower off quality (OQ), drive cost down, increase productivity.
  • Leads production planning and execution of tolled and dispersion product materials including, monitoring supply/demand status, raw material inventory/ordering, and coordinating final product receipt and required product finishing steps. Review pre-shipment and other related quality data/trends associated with treated and colloidal products.
  • Leads and implements new products and process runs in support of R&D needs and prepares relevant documentation/ trial plans. Ensures all process and procedure changes are in line with Management of Change principles.
  • Assist in new line startup/ product qualification on new line at tolling locations. Develop basic scope and data for small scale capital projects.
  • Update/ maintain plant-wide standard operating procedures for process and equipment operation. Leads and implements new products and process runs in support of R&D needs and prepares relevant documentation / trial plans. Ensures all process and procedure changes are in line with Management of Change principles.
  • Investigating equipment problems and eliminating recurrence of failures that will improve plant performance and reliability. Assist in the review of preventive maintenance plans to ensure optimum scheduling. Assist in the development and implementation of Predictive Maintenance Programs to monitor the condition of the plant and equipment to maximize safety and reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Oversee maintenance projects and monitor the progress of external maintenance contractors.
  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
  • Conducts equipment assessments making recommendations for equipment repairs, replacements, and modifications. Assists with equipment repairs of stationery and rotating equipment by working with original equipment manufacturers, after- market suppliers, and outside repair shops.

 

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Bachelor/University degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Chemical Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Chemical Manufacturing; process and product technology; engineering principles; mechanical and instrumentation systems; calibration and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) methodology and reliability analysis tools.
  • Knowledge in areas such as confined space entry, lockout / tag-out, hot-work permitting, etc.
  • Analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Project management skills preferred.

  • Pay and Benefits – The salary range for this role is from 86,500 to 118,975. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
