Your Role at Cabot

Battery Materials Group at Cabot develops advanced cathode, anode and conductive additives for lithium-ion batteries that enable a more sustainable future. This CO-OP position provides an opportunity for a qualified undergraduate student to gain industrial experience in a high growth and high impact area. This role is expected to provide experimental support and product characterization analysis for key projects within the Battery Materials Group. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with battery scientists to develop conductive carbon additive dispersions and test their quality through various analytical methods as well as battery performance testing. Due to the technical nature of the work involved, this position requires a relatively strong technical background and hands-on lab experience, preferably a chemical engineering, materials engineering, or chemistry student with great laboratory skills.

 

Co-op cycle runs June-December.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Assists with the planning and execution of R&D trials to produce high quality conductive carbon additive and /or metal oxide nanoparticle dispersions in aqueous or solvent systems.
  • Assists in the characterization of the properties of the particle dispersions.
  • Assists in battery electrode testing by producing electrode and perform various measurements.
  • Analysis of experimental design results and report results in an organized format.
  • Document results in a presentation or research report at the end of the internship.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Must be enrolled in undergraduate program.
  • University level laboratory experience
  • Experience writing formal laboratory reports.
  • Have strong willingness to learn new things.
  • Strong focus on safety, basic chemical safety training experience preferred
  • Materials engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering coursework
  • Computer skills (MS-Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Due to the nature of the sponsoring project, US citizenship required.
