Your Role at Cabot

Cabot's Business & Technology Center in Billerica is looking for a Sr. Technician, Applications Development to join their team! This person will work efficiently under limited supervision and performs complex chemical laboratory work to support new product, process and application projects in Cabot’s Fumed Metal Oxides and Specialty Carbons business units. Areas of focus include Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants and Elastomers and Plastics, and emerging applications under New Growth Initiatives subsegment. 

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Conduct lab work efficiently to support new product and application development projects, which include establishing new formulations and testing capabilities.
  • Identify risks, investigate and address technical barrier and issues in the workflow.
  • Generate, organize data and provide advanced interpretation to the observations and data.
  • Document test results using electronic notebooks, digital database.
  • Respond to internal and external (customer) inquiries promptly by telephone or emails. May provide information to customers regarding selection and application of Cabot products.
  • May provide training and/or technical guidance to less experienced technicians.
  • Participate and lead development of new experiment SOP and test methods, commission of new equipment.
  • Calibrate testing equipment and performs routine maintenance as needed
  • Adhere to high SH&E standards. Participate in safety meetings and complete required safety trainings.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Minimal Post-secondary studies; certification, specialized/vocational training or equivalent required.
  • Minimal 3-5 years’ laboratory work experience related to chemical products, formulation and application development required.
  • Broad knowledge and hands-on experience in chemical laboratory work, equipment and procedures. Knowledge of chemical and laboratory safety management and waste disposal practices.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymer and plastics engineering, formulation, design of experiments preferred
  • Strong hands-on and analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Service orientation and ability to follow through internal and external requests and respond in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Strong learning and communication skills. Ability to probe questions in order to understand underlying issues. Ability to translate technical terminology and speak and write clearly.
  • Being accountable and agile, can handle projects and tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize lab activities and conduct work with minimal supervision
  • PC skills and ability to use database application, MS Office
  • Collaborative and can-do attitude, good inter-personal skills; willing to share information and resources with peers.
