Your Role at Cabot

Cabot has an exciting opportunity for an Air Pollution Control (APC) - Energy Center (EC) Engineer to join the technical process engineering team at our carbon black facility in Ville Platte, LA.

This role is responsible for the start-up of a new unit installation and the operations of the energy center & air pollution control system, including high pressure air compressors and general utilities like steam, natural gas and tail gas systems.

This position works in a matrixed organization and will oversees compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices for the EC and APC systems including deviation management and reporting.

Additionally this role:

  • Plans, organizes, and monitors daily work of the APC/EC, focusing on safe and efficient operations to meet customers’ demands
  • Acts as a pivotal plant resource to drive improvements to achieve the plant targets (both operational and financial),
  • Defines actions plans, monitors progress, updates Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) and providing the required inputs to other departments when needed (i.e. long-range plan preparation, preventive maintenance and spare parts definition, project design development, etc.)

 

Functionally, the role is supported by the Regional Energy Efficiency Manager, who provides guidance and Subject Matter Expertise (SME), ensuring alignment with the global energy efficiency strategy.

The role will work on-site at the Ville Platte, LA plant.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and operational requirements within the area of responsibility, including adherence to emission limits, operator qualification standards, and periodic inspection schedules.
  • Follow the Management of Change (MOC) process for all relevant activities and collaborate with project, maintenance, and SH&E teams on Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives, such as Design Safety Reviews, HAZOPs, "What If" analyses, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
  • In coordination with the Regional Energy Efficiency Manager, develop annual targets for key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the Energy Center, as well as annual revenue and cost budgets for both the Energy Center and the Air Pollution Control (APC) system; identify and establish additional KPIs as needed to meet objectives.
  • Monitor performance metrics and, in collaboration with the Regional Energy Efficiency Manager, implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Consistently apply continuous improvement methodologies, including root cause analysis and other problem-solving tools, to identify operational inefficiencies and drive improvements toward Operational Excellence.
  • When applicable, plan the energy supply (e.g., tail gas, heat, steam, electricity) to meet customer demands, ensuring alignment with carbon black production schedules and planned shutdowns; maintain effective communication with customers as required.
  • Support the development of turnaround plans and assist in prioritizing activities during outages, with input and guidance from the Regional Energy Efficiency Manager.
  • Design and implement training and assessment programs for operators and other relevant personnel to ensure skill development and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering teams to integrate EC/APC requirements into preventive maintenance strategies and long-range investment planning.
  • Foster a culture of energy efficiency at the plant level, contributing to the achievement of the company’s sustainability and energy goals.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required (Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • 1+ years’ experience in power generation required
  • WFGD (wet flue gas desulfurization) process experience preferred
  • Experience in equipment inspection during turnarounds preferred
  • DCS operating system experience
  • Power Plant experience
  • Solid understanding of Process Safety fundamentals, including hazard recognition, risk management, and associated tools
  • Familiarity with Carbon Black production is preferred
  • Proficient in English and experienced with Microsoft Office software suite
  • Strong safety mindset with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
  • Proven ability to lead, organize, and plan work effectively in a technical setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others, manage conflicts, and facilitate collaboration
  • Competence in budget preparation and cost control
  • Strong focus on Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence principles
